Soumya Sarkar was a part of the 2010 and 2012 Under 19 Bangladeshi World Cup team. He made his first-class debut for Khulna Division against Dhaka Division in the year 2010/11 season. In 2018/19 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, Sarkar scored 208 not out batting for Abahani Limited against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club. It was the highest individual total in List A cricket in the country, and the first double century in List A cricket. His innings contained 16 sixes, also a record for a List A innings in Bangladesh. This innings facilitate Abahani Limited to win their 20th Dhaka Premier League title.In 2013, Soumya Sarkar was selected for Bangladesh T20 team against New Zealand but he did not selected in the final XI. Soumya Sarkar was again selected for Bangladesh team for the home series against Zimbabwe in 2014 and made his One Day International debut for Bangladesh against Zimbabwe in December 2014. Soumya Sarkar represented Bangladesh in the 2015 Cricket World Cup. Soumya Sarkar made his Twenty20 International debut for Bangladesh against Pakistan in April 2015 and made his Test debut against Pakistan in 2015. He played a key role in 100th Test match, scoring 61 in the first innings and taking five catches, the most by any player for Bangladesh in a single Test match, they defeated Sri Lanka. In 2019, Sarkar made Test century against New Zealand at Seddon Park. In April 2019, he was named in Bangladesh’s squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. In November 2019, Sarkar was selected for the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. Later he was named in Bangladesh team for the cricket tournament at the 2019 South Asian Games. Bangladesh won the gold medal by defeating Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the final. In 2020 he was included in T20I series. In the first T20, he scored 62 off 32 balls and Bangladesh wins the match by 48 runs. In 2021 T20, he scored his 1000th T20 runs, becoming fifth Bangladeshi batsman to score 1000 T20 runs. Soumya Sarkar became the Player of the series for his all-round performance. In 2021, he was selected for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and also selected for 2022 T20 World Cup.In December 2023, he was selected for the white ball tour to New Zealand in second ODI, he scored 169 runs, the highest individual score by a Bangladeshi batter away from home and also recorded the highest individual score by an Asian batter in New Zealand.
