Introduction

You see the sun during day time and moon during night. Our sun one of these thousands of stars. Sun is the center of solar system. The solar system consists of the Sun and everything that moves (orbits) around the Sun. This includes the planets and their moons(satellites), dwarf planets, and asteroids, comets, and other objects. However, even with all these things, most of the solar system is empty (vacuum).Our solar system is only a small part of a large system of stars and other objects called the Milky Way galaxy. The solar system moves (orbits) around the center of the galaxy. The Milky Way galaxy is one of billions of galaxies that makes the universe. The solar system was formed about 4.7 billion years ago. It probably started as a loose cloud of gas and dust. Gravity pulled parts of the cloud together. The largest object became the Sun. Over millions of years the other objects become planets, dwarf planets, comets asteroids and so many other cosmic objects. The strong gravitational force of Sun holds the planets into their orbits. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is the national space agency of India. It operates as the primary research and development arm of the Department of Space. ISRO responsible for work related to space-based operations, space exploration, international space cooperation and the development of related technologies. The Sriharikota is the launch base for rockets of India carrying satellites.

The Sun

At the center of the solar system is a star called the Sun. It is the largest object in the solar system. Its diameter is 865,000 miles (1,392,000 kilometers). Sun contains more than 99 percent of all the material in the solar system. The Sun is a very hot ball of hydrogen and helium gases. It has a temperature, at its core, of more than 28,080,000° F (15,600,000° C). It constantly changes the hydrogen in its core into helium. This process gives out huge amounts of radiation, or energy. Every Living thing on Earth depends on the energy of sun, in the form of light and heat. Inside the Sun the gases shoot out a stream of tiny particles called the solar wind. It flows outward through the whole solar system. The solar wind is what causes auroras, or displays of colored light in the night sky in Hemispheres. In Northern Hemisphere these auroras are called the northern lights.

The Planets of  Solar system for class 3

After the Sun, the major objects in the solar system are the planets. The closest planet to the sun is called Mercury. Mercury is the smallest planet. It has no atmosphere. The daytime on Mercury is extremely hot and night is extremely cold. It takes 88 days to orbit the sun once. The next planet is Venus. Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system. It takes 225 days for to orbit the sun. Our Earth is the third planet from the sun. It is the only planet in our solar system with air and water which supports life. Earth has its own atmosphere . It takes 365 days to orbit the sun one time. Next is Mars. Mars is often called “the red planet” because of a mineral called iron oxide that gives it a rusty red color. Although smaller in size, Mars is similar to Earth in a lot of ways. It takes 687 days for Mars to orbit the sun. After Mars is Jupiter, it is the largest planet. Unlike the first four planets, Jupiter is not made of rock. It is made of gases. Jupiter is known for its violent storms and for having 95 moons! It takes 12 years to orbit the sun one time. After Jupiter is Saturn, another gas giant. Saturn is known for its rings which are made of ice. Saturn is the second largest planet and has 146 moons. It takes 29 years to orbit the sun. Next is Uranus. Uranus has a blue green color and orbits the sun on its side. This gas giant has 27 moons. It takes 84 years to orbit around the sun. The last planet in the solar system is Neptune. Neptune is also made of gasses. Neptune has 14 moons. It takes 165 years to orbit the sun. Pluto was the ninth planet. But in 2006 scientists decided to call it as a dwarf planet.

Asteroids

Countless small objects made of metal and rock called asteroids also orbit the Sun. Most asteroids are found in a ring between Mars and Jupiter. These are decided as debris, left from collisions between objects in the solar system. The largest asteroids are hundreds of miles in diameter, but most are much smaller. Small asteroids regularly fall to Earth or burn up due to atmospheric friction in the sky as glowing meteors.

Comets

Comets are small objects of dirt and ice. Countless Comets orbits the Sun. When they are closest to the Sun, the Sun’s heat and radiation causes them to glow. Most comets are small not visible from Earth. Mainly Comets come from two parts of the outer solar system: the Kuiper Belt and the Oort Cloud. Kuiper Belt consists of millions of small icy objects. Oort Cloud is a huge cloud of billions of small, icy objects.

Conclusion

The solar system is also known as a planetary system. Since the 1990s scientists have found many planetary systems beyond our solar system. In these systems, one or more planets orbit a star like our solar system planets orbits the Sun. These planets are called extrasolar planets. Finding other planetary systems is not easy, however, because extrasolar planets appear much dimmer than the stars they orbit. As space probes travel farther away from Earth, they are likely to discover more extrasolar planets.
